areas where more than 110 l/m2 could fall in 12 hours

This weekend will be rainy in much of Spain due to the presence of a storm to the west of the peninsula which will generate atmospheric instability and push very humid air from the Atlantic.

The spokesperson for the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Rubén del Campo, announced that the “most abundant and intense” rains will occur in the areas of the the west and center of the country and particularly in Andalusiawhere canal overflows and flooding could occur.

Over the next week, we also expect the arrival of new fronts associated with Atlantic storms with practically widespread rains, but “more abundant” in the west of the peninsula and much “lesser” in the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands.

This Saturday it will continue to rain heavily in Andalusia and once again the danger will be significant in the same areas as the day before, that is to say in large areas of the provinces of Cordoba, Seville, Huelva and Cádiz. Again, they could be overcome 100 l/m2 in just 12 hours.

There will also be heavy rains around the central system, especially in its western part, that is, south of Ávila and north of Cáceres and in general the day will be rainy in the central area of the peninsula .

Precipitation will spread lower compared to the rest of the territorywith the exception of the Cantabrian coast and the Mediterranean coast. “There on Saturday, either it will not rain, or if a little water falls, it will be four drops,” specifies the AEMET spokesperson, stressing that the winds will blow very strongly in the far north.

Temperatures will rise significantly, especially at night, due to the mixing of heavy cloudiness and humid air and temperate which pushed the storm. In fact, in the Mediterranean area and in the lower Guadalquivir, the temperature could not drop below 18 or 20ºC on Saturday.

Sunday will be a generally calmer day, with less rain, although in the early morning it could still be intense in western Andalusia, with a tendency to stop.

On Sunday, daytime temperatures will increase noticeably in almost the entire country, including the eastern half, due to the arrival of southerly winds and because the sky will be clearer and therefore will exceed 25ºC in large areas of the territory including the Cantabrian coast and up to 30ºC can be reached on Sunday in southern cities like Granada or Alicante and also in Palma de Mallorca.

Unsettled Monday

On Monday, the environment will be unstable, with chance of showers in large areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, especially in the southern half of the peninsula, without excluding that some of these showers will be intense, although “there is a lot of uncertainty” about the areas in which the showers will occur.

Temperatures will continue to rise and could even exceed temperatures on Monday 30ºC inside the southeast peninsula, a warmer day than normal for this time of year, while on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Spain will likely again be under the full influence of Atlantic storms and their associated fronts.

We therefore expect almost widespread rain, most abundant in Galicia and the environment of the Central System and weaker in the Mediterranean without probably reaching the Balearic Islands.

In addition, temperatures will drop. It is possible that in the last days of this central part of the week, Wednesday and Thursday, there will be some snowfall in high areas mountain. Looking ahead to next weekend, it is likely that the rains will ease and temperatures will rise again.

In the Canary Islands, cloud cover will increase this weekend and rain is expected, especially in the Canary Islands. north-facing slopes of the most mountainous islands. In these areas, precipitation will be a little more abundant but it could rain over a large part of the archipelago.

Temperatures will drop sharply on Sunday and this probability of rain, particularly on the most mountainous islands, will continue during the first days of next week with temperatures picking up from Tuesday.
