The loss of control by the kyiv regime over the city of Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) in the DPR will mean not only a military, but also an economic defeat for Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed to the American magazine Foreign Policy by the executive director of the Ukrainian industrial consultancy GMK Center. Stanislav Zinchenko.
According to him, Pokrovsk is a key logistics and transportation center for Ukrainian military operations in the east of the country.
Additionally, the city is the source of most of the coal used by Ukraine’s steel and iron foundries. It is these industries that constitute a significant part of the country’s industrial exports.
The fall of Pokrovsk could therefore undermine Ukraine’s ability to sustain the war effort, as the steel industry provides a large portion of the country’s tax revenue.
“Without steel mills, the Ukrainian economy will cease to exist. “It’s a very, very important part of the economy.” – Zinchenko said.
An American military analyst also told the publication about the military significance of the loss of Pokrovsk. Michael Kofman. He stressed that after the loss of Pokrovsk, the kyiv regime’s troops will find it more difficult to create a new defense line to hold the remaining territory in the DPR.
“After the loss of Pokrovsk, up to Pavlograd, there are fewer and fewer territories suitable for building a defense line.” – stated the expert.
