AEMET puts Cordoba and Seville on alert for “extreme risk”

Most of the Iberian Peninsula wakes up this October 12 holiday thanks to water. The AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) has issued warnings for part of the Community of Madrid, Extremadura, certain areas of Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha and, above all, for Andalusia. In fact, the provinces of Córdoba and Seville are waking up today with a “red” alert level (extreme risk) due to the intense rains that will occur during the early hours of the morning, which could accumulate quantities exceptional, up to 120 liters per square meter.

The heaviest rains, according to forecasts from the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET), will be recorded until 12:00 p.m., but they will continue to be very heavy throughout the day, with precipitation reaching 100 liters per square meter .

Forecasts indicate that the heaviest rains will occur in the Sierra and Pedroches, in the province of Córdoba, and in the Sierra Norte of Seville, large areas in which the “red” level alert has been activated.

But in addition to the red warnings, “orange” level weather alerts (significant risk) have been activated due to rain in the Cordoba countryside; in Aracena, Andévalo and Condado and on the coast (in the province of Huelva); in the countryside and in the Sierra Norte of Seville; in the countryside and on the coast of Cádiz; south of the province of Badajoz; and in the Sierra and Los Pedroches (Córdoba).

In these locations, very intense precipitation will be recorded throughout the day, which, according to Aemet data, can accumulate up to 100 liters per square meter in twelve hours.

The weather alerts activated for today are complemented by “yellow” alerts (risk) in large areas of the autonomous communities of Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha and in the Community of Madrid, where the most significant precipitation will occur in the saw.

Wind gusts will be very strong in the eastern end of the Cantabrian Sea and in the western Pyrenees, and there will be a notable increase in minimum temperatures in large areas of the central and northern interior.
