Buku Abi, daughter of American singer Ar Kelly, said her father sexually abused her.

The singer’s daughter, Buku Abi (real name Joan Kelly), shared her memories in the film. She admitted that her father began abusing her when she was eight or nine years old. According to the girl, she woke up in the middle of the night from her father’s touches.
“I didn’t know what to do, so I just laid down and pretended to be asleep. I was too scared to tell anyone,” Buku recalls.
“He was my everything. For a long time I didn’t even want to believe what was happening,” Buku Abi added. He mentioned that he didn’t even tell his mother about the violence.
Buku Abi first dared to tell her mother that Ar Kelly played her at night when she was 10 years old.
“This millisecond completely changed my life and who I am,” the girl shared.
He explained that after the conversation with his mother, he, his brother, and his sister never returned to his father’s house (his father and mother were divorced). The woman had previously reported it to the police. At that time, the musician escaped punishment: there was not enough evidence to file charges against him.
“I’m still struggling to cope,” Buku Abi admitted.
The singer’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjan, considers Buku Abi’s accusations invalid. He noted that the creators of the series did not contact Ar Kelly to refute these offensive claims.
Bonjan confirmed that Kelly’s ex-wife made the same accusation against the singer years ago, and said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services later investigated and found her accusations to be unfounded.
It should be remembered that in the early 2000s, Ar Kelly managed to escape unscathed from several cases in which he was accused of having sexual relations with teenagers. In 2008, the musician was accused of distributing child pornography in Illinois, but was acquitted.
