UNIFIL announced another injured peacekeeper in Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said another peacekeeper was wounded by gunfire in the south of the country, near the border with Israel.

This was reported by The Times Of Israel.

This case was the fifth in the last two days. UNIFIL said in a statement that the attack occurred at the force’s headquarters in Naqoura and is believed to have been a result of ongoing fighting in the region. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been established, but the injured soldier’s condition is considered stable.

UNIFIL representatives reported that recent clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have led to serious destruction of peacekeeping force positions.

According to spokesperson Andrea Tenenti, there was significant damage to UNIFIL bases, including a large explosion that damaged containers at Ghanaian peacekeeper positions.

Tenenti also noted that Israel asked UNIFIL to withdraw its forces to a distance of up to five kilometers from the Blue Line, the demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel, but the peacekeepers unanimously decided to remain in their positions and continue their mission. .

Previously, Kursor wrote that Israel recommends that Lebanon withdraw UN peacekeepers.

The Israeli ambassador said moving UNIFIL forces 5 kilometers further north could reduce the risk to peacekeepers.
