The Andalusian Government has detected three cases of West Nile virus infection in three horses in the municipalities of Granada Pinos Puente, Atarfe and Zalabí Valley. The first two cases were confirmed on October 8; the third, the next day. These are the first cases of West Nile virus infection in animals in this province since the Council began counting this 2023-2024 campaign last July.
These are the official data published by the regional administration consulted by Europa Press. In the case of Pinos Puente, the mayor of the town, Enrique Medina, reported that a case of Nile virus was detected in a horse and this Saturday, from the first hour, they are proceeding fumigation work.
The councilor pointed out that since Saturday morning fumigations have been underway “in the different areas where we have the most humidity in Pinos Puente, such as the river and, of course, by all areas where the infected horse appeared by the bite of the Nile mosquito; the first case in Granada in an animal.
The Consistory, as detailed by the councilor, since it was informed by the Health Delegation, launched all of the protocol. So, the first thing that was done was to inform the population. In this regard, he stressed that “By taking proper precautions, this does not require greater severity not even an alarm”, but he asked to put “all of us a little of our will”, among other things, in relation to stagnant waters.
