The demonstration for the right to decent housing this Sunday denounces the “fatigue” of tenants and mortgage creditors

This Sunday in Madrid there is a call a demonstration for the right to decent housing under the slogan “It’s over: let’s lower the rents” by 40 groups, led by the Union of Tenants of Madrid and will be held from 12:00 p.m., to show “the fed up of the inhabitants of the capital” facing with high rents. Rent prices and the crisis of access to housing.

The demonstrators are gathered in the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, from where the thousands of expected participants will head towards the Plaza de Cibeles, along the Paseo del Prado. They will stop in front of the Metropolis building, where several of the groups that have called for protests are expected to read their manifestos.

The Union of Tenants of Madrid, in addition to demanding that tourist apartments and eviction companies put an end toalso demands the resignation of the Minister of Housing, Isabel Rodríguez. The refusal of Congress to admit for examination the proposed regulation of temporary rentals was, according to the union, “the straw that broke the camel’s back of anger and frustration.”

For this reason, they urged neighbors to join the meeting to “scream clearly that it is over.” In this sense, the spokesperson of the Union, Valeria Racu, regretted having arrived at a moment “where our lives spend paying for housing, having the bases to be able to start a life project”.

He assured that “this is happening because they allow themselves to be done, because we continue to maintain a rentier system in which those who have the least continue to support, day after day, those who have the most.” Thus, he expressed his indignation because “people who do not own a house are at the mercy and control of those who do and we are fed up with this situation.” Q

The spokesperson considers that both in the central government and in the autonomous municipal governments, “the PSOE, Sumar and the PP have the same policy on housing”, since they “support rentism”. He therefore declared that governments “are responsible, that the rentiers are guilty and that those of us who have the solution are the civilian population”. The demonstration benefits from the support of Sumar and Podemos, who have spoken out all week on this call which promises to be massive.
