North Korea warns Seoul of ‘horrible disaster’ if it sends drones into its territory again

The sister of the leader of North Korea, Kim Yo-jonghe warned this Sunday told South Korea that it would face a “horrible disaster” if it sent drones into its territory againafter Pyongyang assured that several of these South Korean aircraft had recently flown over the North Korean capital.

“We will take corresponding strong retaliation regardless of the factors involved in the infiltration of our territory by drones carrying political propaganda of the Republic of Korea (South Korea’s official name),” Kim said in a statement. press release reported this Sunday by the state agency KCNA.

“We are not concerned about who is the main provocative force behind the recent drone incident,” added Kim, deputy director of North Korea’s Propaganda and Agitation Department. “The next time a South Korean drone is discovered in the skies over our capital, it will surely trigger a horrible disaster,” he warned.

Pyongyang said last Friday, the South sent drones to fly over Pyongyang at least three times in the past week and that this action represents a serious military violation of its sovereignty. The official KCNA news agency reported that these Drones loaded with brochureswhich suggests that they are propaganda pamphlets against the North Korean regime.

He also published a photograph in which one of these drones and a packet of pamphlets were seen flying over the night sky, and called the action “a blatant violation of sacred national sovereignty and security and a violent violation of the right international”. South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun denied the claims the same day and said he was not “aware of this situation” when asked by lawmakers after the news was released. by Pyongyang.

For its part, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) explained in a statement “that it cannot confirm the veracity of North Korea’s claims” and that it is investigating whether civilian organizations were able to send leaflets with drones. North Korea has sent more than 5,000 balloons loaded with debris to the southern territory in recent months, in response to anti-regime propaganda balloons that activists regularly send from the South.

These human rights groups have claimed to have sometimes succeeded in sending drones loaded with leaflets into North Korea.
