How Iran lies about damage caused by Israeli attack: media

The death toll as a result of the Israeli attack on Iranian territory was not five people, as official sources in Tehran claimed, but at least 26.

The Farsi edition of the British newspaper Independent writes about this, citing Iranian sources.

The publication claims that around 20 objects were attacked and significant damage was caused, including objects with S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.

It is also known that five minutes before the attack, the Iranian air defense system was hacked, causing the image to freeze on radars. For this reason, the Iranian side was unable to record the invasion, suggesting that the attacks were carried out from Iraqi airspace.

Previously, Kursor reported that the consequences of this attack were discussed by former Israeli Mossad intelligence officer Oded Elam in an interview for 103FM radio. Elam stressed that the operation was complex and carefully prepared, but that Israeli forces deliberately did not attack oil facilities such as the strategic Kharg Island, through which around 250 million barrels of Iranian oil flow to the Chinese market. This represents almost 10% of China’s total oil imports, which is important for both the Iranian economy and global energy.

Elam noted that during the operation the Parchin military zone was attacked, where, according to the Mossad, Iran is developing technology to create nuclear weapons. This object became known in 2018, when Israeli intelligence gained access to secret Iranian files. According to him, the damage was serious, contrary to Tehran’s statements about the safety of its nuclear facilities.

Iran’s situation, according to Elam, is now one of the most difficult since the end of the Iran-Iraq war in 1988. The country was left without adequate missile defense and specialized shelters. There are also no advanced air defense systems such as Arrow missiles, which further aggravates the problem.

Elam believes that Iran is struggling to find an adequate response to the attack: the true extent of the damage is only now becoming evident and exceeds the expectations of the Iranian authorities. According to Elam, Tehran’s options are very limited: its main ally, Hezbollah, has almost lost its strength, and Yemen’s support is also limited by the powerful American defense, which seriously calls into question Iran’s capabilities.
