Some taxi problems are solved: New stops are created

Improvements are being made to taxis. One of the most common problems that taxis face is boarding and disembarking passengers. In some cases, passengers demand that the taxi stop in places where parking is prohibited or there is a bus lane. The creation of certain taxi ranks is already being considered.

Thus, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) has prepared a project related to the organization of taxi ranks. This was indicated in the agency’s statement. The information mentions that there are more than 130 taxi ranks on various streets and avenues in Baku. As most of them are not organized into attraction points, they sometimes create obstacles to traffic. Therefore, AYNA applies a complex approach to the topic.

Work is being carried out to eliminate points that hinder traffic movement and at the same time identify new points of attraction. It is planned to organize new attraction points mainly around universities, shopping centers, transport interchange centers, as well as on alternative roads near bus lanes.

Taking into account the requests of residents, analyzes were carried out and a project was prepared on the organization of taxi ranks and stops for passenger vehicles on Tbilisi Avenue in the capital. According to the project, six points have been identified on Tbilisi Avenue where taxis can stop. Work will begin soon.

“Caspian” The newspaper published an article on the subject.

“Other cars are not allowed to stop”

AYNA reported on the topic that the created parking lots and boarding points are intended only for taxis: “The Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan has organized parking and boarding places for passenger taxis on Tbilisi Avenue. As of September 30, here there will be five stops and there is a pick-up and drop-off point at stops for vehicles other than taxis generates administrative liability and, according to the Code of Administrative Offenses, drivers of other vehicles will be fined 40 manats. Please note that only those. Taxis allowed at the pick-up and drop-off point, cars cannot stop there.”

“They couldn’t find anywhere to leave their passenger”

According to Yasin Mustafayev, an expert on transportation issues, the creation of taxi ranks is very convenient for both drivers and passengers: “Just like a bus stop, taxis should have stops to pick up customers. In addition, If there are no customers, people will find taxis more easily if they stop there. There used to be taxi ranks in Baku, but there are very few of them. It is important to have taxi ranks in areas where there are a lot of people, such as universities and shopping centers. as well as in places called traffic intersections.

According to Y. Mustafayev, the problems that taxis have in this area will be solved at least in part: “Because the work of taxi drivers became a little more difficult with the construction of bus lanes. They could not find a place to drop off and pick up. to its passengers From that point of view, this is a commendable step. Perhaps in some places, these parking lots do not meet the needs because the streets and avenues in Baku have been determined in advance, it is impossible to change or fix them.”

“This requirement exists in the legislation”

Transport expert Eldeniz Jafarov believes that, in addition to the stops, boarding and disembarking places will also be effective: “The main goal of the reconstruction of taxi ranks and the creation of new ones is to make the work of both taxi drivers easier. as of passengers In addition to permanent taxi ranks, ranks are also created in places where it is not possible to stop, it is possible to stop the car and drop off passengers. This is also available in many European countries.

According to E. Jafarov, although the creation of stops is admirable, the main issue is the identification of the taxis that will stop there: “There are no yellow lights on the cars that circulate by the taxis, which makes it difficult to identify the taxi drivers. Taxi drivers themselves are negligent. However, this requirement exists in the legislation. If taxi drivers do not put lights on their cars, they will not be able to identify them in parking lots. It is true that police officers will be able to see the numbers of the cars. taxis already registered on the portal. Is the driver an owner of a taxi or is he an ordinary driver? Also, does the driver have permission to operate a taxi?
