Iran sent two space satellites to Russia, which they plan to put into orbit through Roscosmos.
This was reported by the Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to the agency, the Kovsar and Khodkhod satellites were developed and manufactured by private research companies. One of them is designed to observe the Earth and the second for communication.
The agency notes that the launch of these satellites is an important milestone for the Iranian space industry, as it represents the first major test by the private sector. It is also known that the satellites will be launched into orbit using the Russian Soyuz launch vehicle.
According to official Iranian data, Kovsar (Lightning) and Khokhod (Hoopoe) were created “for peaceful purposes.” “Kovsar” will be engaged in geodetic observations, and “Khodkhod” will provide high-speed Internet. However, it is worth noting that both tasks can serve a dual purpose, including military use.
By the way, in recent years Russia and Iran have significantly increased the volume of military-technical cooperation, including in the areas of missile and space activities. This has become a cause for concern in Western countries: they fear that Moscow could participate in the development of Iran’s military, including nuclear, programs.
