Data from the lunar probe shows that the shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected the Earth’s environment, but has also had unexpected consequences in space.
Oku.Az nude-science.ru reports that astrophysicists have shared interesting information from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) satellite. The satellite is used to determine the temperature of the lunar surface.
A comparison of data from recent years shows an anomalous nighttime cooling on the Moon in April and May 2020: the temperature in the part of the natural satellite that is not illuminated by the Sun has dropped by several degrees. Interestingly, this was also observed on the side of the Moon visible from Earth.
It turned out that the lack of functioning plants and factories on Earth and the lack of cars on the streets caused a decrease in temperature on the surface of the Moon. This means that Earth’s activities heat the Moon’s surface.
