Two of the most popular social networks in the world, Facebook and Instagram, have a large number of users due to their multiple features. Both are owned by the conglomerate Meta Plataforms Inc., known as Facebook Inc. until 2021, which also owns other everyday applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger Live and Threads. The company created by Mark Zuckerberg has become popular over the years, becoming one of the largest in the sector, but it is not free from controversies over the functioning of the algorithm and the sensitive content contained therein. displayed.
For this reason, and despite the simplicity and accessibility with which it is possible to create a profile, some users decide not only to delete the application from their mobile phone, but also to unsubscribe by deleting their account on one of the two social networks. networks.
Although the way of doing this has changed significantly over the years, it is still possible to close an account quickly, albeit in a somewhat more cumbersome manner. In the Meta Account Center it is possible to unsubscribe from Instagram and Facebook. We explain how to do it step by step.
Before deleting an account on Instagram or Facebook
Before deleting an account, it is important to decide whether you want to delete it permanently or, on the contrary, whether you simply want to take a break from social networks for a while. If you decide to take a break from social media, you have two options: permanently delete the account or temporarily deactivate it.
Whatever the decision, it is important to know that once a profile has been deleted in either application, there will be a limited period of a few weeks during which it will be possible to re-enter your old username. If the entry request is completed during this time, Meta will understand that you regretted it and will fully reinstate your account.
Use the Meta Account Center to unsubscribe
One of Meta’s latest changes to profile management is the Account Center. In it it is possible to manage all the profiles of each user, unsubscribe or update all data related to active accounts.
It is possible to access the Instagram Account Center via this link. However, if you wish to unsubscribe from Facebook, this will be possible via this other link.
Although they have different links, the deactivation method is the same. To get started, select the social network you want to unsubscribe from and go to its Account Center. Next, click on the “Personal Data” option that will appear on the left.
After that, it will be possible to differentiate three subsections: “Contact details”, “Date of birth” and “Account ownership and control”. To unsubscribe from one or the other of the two social networks, you will have to click on the latter.
When you click on the “Account Ownership and Control” option, a tab will appear that warns you of the consequences of deactivating or deleting a profile. Click on it to go to the next screen, where the Account Center will ask you to select the profile you want to delete temporarily or permanently.
Once you have chosen the account you want to cancel, a final tab will appear, in which two options will appear: “Deactivate account” or “Delete account”. The first will allow you to temporarily deactivate your profile until it is activated again from the Account Center or by logging into the application in which the user was deactivated.
The second will permanently delete all your interactions on the social network, so if you just want to take a break, it is advisable to resort to the first alternative. However, if you have decided to permanently delete your account, the following sections will be completely removed from the social network:
- The profile.
- Photos and videos, both those that appear in the profile and those archived.
- Comments on any article.
- “Likes” attributed to any post or comment.
- Profile followers and followings.
Once you have chosen how to unsubscribe, click Continue. Next, you need to enter your password and then select the reason why you want to deactivate or delete the account. This step is mandatory, even if the Account Center will offer you the “Other reason” option if you do not wish to specify the reason for the decision.
After selecting the cause, the Account Center will direct you to the final confirmation screen, where you need to press the blue button to temporarily deactivate or permanently delete your account.
