What is the health card CIPA number (and how to quickly locate it)

In this era where easy and rapid access to information is essential, health was not going to be any less so. And that is why understanding and knowing all the data that appears in our documentation can make our lives easier.

One of the most frequently used is the CIPA number, a code that has become famous especially during vaccination campaigns against Covid-19, although in reality it is essential to make an appointment in primary care centers.

With the campaign flu vaccination Many will wonder where to find this information, so in this article we explain what this combination of numbers (and letters in some cases) is, where to find it and everything related to it.

What is the CIPA number?

CIPA are the acronyms of Stand-alone personal identification code. This is a unique combination that appears on the health card of each citizen and becomes a sort of health identity card. This code is assigned by the autonomous communities and allows each person to be identified before public health services in Spain.

CIPA is used, for example, when requesting drugs or you access the electronic medical record. Since health management is the responsibility of each autonomous community, CIPA in each community presents a different aspect. In some cases it is composed only of numbers, but in others it is also combined with letters.

How do I find out my CIPA code?

It is worth familiarizing yourself with the CIPA code and, above all, knowing where to find it.. One of the simplest and most direct ways to find out your CIPA is to look it up on your health card.. In it it is presented clearly and visibly.

Of course, it is essential that you learn to distinguish it from other codes that may seem similar, like Social Security Number. The CIPA is generally located in a conspicuous place, but separate from other numbers such as Social Security.

Your “health identifier” is on the front of the health card of each autonomous community. Depending on the age of the card, the CIPA may appear in the top right or center.

If you have the virtual health cardwhen you enter the application all the data will appear, since, on the screen, it is displayed with the same aesthetics as physics.

However, if for some reason you don’t have your card in hand or are unable to identify the code, there is no reason to worry.

Many autonomous communities offer digital health portals where, after an authentication process, for example with the digital certificate or the Cl@ve PINhealth-related personal information, including CIPA, is accessible.

And of course, it is always possible to use the traditional method: contact your health center or your community health authority. It may take you longer.
