Eduardo Zaplana, sentenced to 10 years in prison for collecting commissions and hiding them abroad

The Valencia court condemned the former president of the Generalitat Valenciana and former Minister of Labor of the PP Eduardo Zaplana to more than 10 years in prison for collecting bribes in exchange for rewards while he was head of the Consell.

In addition, he was also ordered to pay 25 million euros fine. The sentence was notified this Tuesday and considers that collection bites after the award of vehicle technical inspection (ITV) contractsprivatized by him and saved by the Valencian left, and the Aeolian Plan.

Zaplana is considered the author of crimes of prevarication, corruption, lying and money laundering.

“He occupied a position of great importance, being president of the Generalitat Valenciana and therefore the highest personality in the Valencian government, which makes his conduct particularly reprehensible,” recalls the sentence to which Spain had access.

For this reason, the court also imposes 17 years and 10 months of ban on employment and public function, another 3 years of exercising his profession and fines amounting to more than 25 million euros.

On the other hand, the Court acquitted him of the offense of criminal grouping but ordered the confiscation of the various assets and sums seized during the investigation of the case.

The Chamber also sentenced five other defendants to sentences ranging from one year to three months and seven and a half years in prison for prevarication, corruption, lying and money laundering. Among them, the Cotino brothers, nephews of the former leader of the PP, stand out. Juan Cotinodied in 2020.

On the other hand, the Court acquitted the former president of the Generalitat and Bancaja, José Luis Olivas, because his participation in the plot was not proven.

The sentence, which includes 364 pagesis not final and may be the subject of an appeal to the Supreme Court.
