Alcorcón believes that mobility on the A-5 cannot be achieved only thanks to the free R5 and Madrid is committed to “common work”

The mayor of Alcorcón, Candelaria Testa, said on Tuesday that the mobility plan on the A-5 due to underground works cannot be achieved only by making the R-5 toll highway free – as claimed by the Alcorcón Madrid town hall. -, while his counterpart in the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, insisted on the importance of this measure and opted for the “common work” of the different administrations implied.

This is what he said after a meeting at the Cibeles Palace on underground works, which also affect the mobility of neighboring municipalities like Alcorcón or Móstoles.

Testa assured that the meeting “arrived late” and reported having transmitted to Almeida his complaint concerning the “institutional treatment” that he granted to the municipalities affected by this work, the information of which he summarized in “a QR code” . “

“From there, since we did not go to complain, but to propose joint, serious and rigorous work, we want above all that this work be multifactorial. I believe that the plan proposed by Madrid cannot depend only on whether R-5 is free or not, it must be much broader,” he said.

For this reason, Testa proposes a technical table between the City Hall of the capital and neighboring municipalities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport to also address the strengthening of Cercanías, as well as with the support of the Community of Madrid, to which it request to strengthen metro lines 10, 12 and 5.

“But especially with the Regional Transport Consortium, because we need an express and very strong reinforcement of interurban bus lines. Alcorcón will be available out of institutional loyalty and for the benefit of its neighbors, even to put itself in relay parking and to make itself available to Madrid City Hall on alternative routes”, declared the mayor, who affirmed that he was time to resolve a “deficient” plan.

A “proactive” meeting

Regarding the meeting, the mayor of Madrid described it as “productive” and defended that both are “worried” about the conditions to the mobility that may occur.

“I believe this is a first message addressed to all the neighbors who will be affected. That the City Council of Alcorcón and Madrid wish to collaborate. “We want to implement measures that can minimize these discomforts and conditions,” he said.

Furthermore, the mayor indicated that this afternoon a meeting will be held within the Regional Transport Consortium to coordinate and evaluate the measures put in place to facilitate mobility around the A-5.

“The Ministry is coming, for the first time, and we are happy, we have sent three letters for these upcoming meetings (…) I think it is good news for everyone, and that we must “There is this coordination between the different administrations and also between the town halls”, underlined Martínez-Almeida.

Regarding concrete proposals, he once again highlighted the need to strengthen buses, metros and Cercanías, in addition to insisting on free R-5 during peak hours.

“Right now, all alternatives are on the table. But it is obvious that the free R-5 does not depend on the mayor of Alcorcón or me, it depends on the ministry. And what is appropriate is that I speak about it as I will do on Thursday afternoon to Minister Óscar Puente,” he explained.
