The Provincial Council of Soria will create the I Provincial Council of Rural Women, a new body which will welcome all the women of the province and associations and which will collect their main demands.
The head of the Social Services Department of the provincial institution, Laura Prieto, presented this Tuesday, Rural Women’s Daythe main conclusions of the sociological study of rural women in the province of Soria.
Prieto indicated that More than 48 percent of the rural population are womenand highlighted that the shortcomings and requirements of women who live in rural areas vary depending on the area in which they reside, since living in the Ribera del Duero region is not the same as living in the Gómara countryside.
In this regard, he highlighted that in the latter region, 41 percent of the population are women and that they demand integration programs for the immigrant populationpredominantly Latin American, who “have a growing presence in the municipality”. This demand also comes from the rural region of Soria, close to the capital.
In other areas, women demand workshops to learn the Spanish language and support your children in their studiesaccording to Prieto, who pointed out that the photography of women in Ribera del Duero, with a percentage that exceeds 48 percent, focuses more on the need to access housing and create a structure to integrate all associations.
“The document will allow us to draw the lines of the future in which the department will work and carry out upon request, one could say, a series of activities to respond to the needs that women have expressed. The women who are here today to support us and whom we also want to see reflected in these demands, in these requests and also in the result,” explained the MP.
The study was carried out throughout this year, with a budget of 12,000 euros, and 200 women participated who revealed their story.
The Provincial Delegation of Soria has planned a total of 82 activities aimed at women in which aspects such as sexuality, pelvic floor, self-care and mental health, among others, were addressed.
Additionally, a self-defense workshop is expected to start in November as the number of sexual assaults has also increased in rural areas. “There are certain regions of the province where there are a greater number of violent situations and women must be prepared for this first intervention,” he stressed.
