In the footage, Amesbruy also shouts at the victim: “You’re not going to threaten me anymore, are you?”. In his defense, the MP claimed on the social network “X” (formerly Twitter) that he had acted in this way after feeling threatened when he was with friends. However, he refused to make further statements on this matter.
Cheshire Police said they have taken a statement from a 55-year-old man regarding the events and that, at this time, he has been released while the investigation progresses.
This incident sparked criticism from the Conservative Party, who urged Amesbury to “response for their actions”. “The good thing is that this matter is being thoroughly investigated,” a Conservative spokesperson said.
Before the facts, Amesbury was one of the Labor Party’s housing spokespersons. He won his seat after winning the Runcorn and Helsby constituency with a large majority. However, he did not secure a position in the government cabinet following Labor’s victory in the July 4 general election.
