The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, presented on Tuesday the spending ceiling and the draft community budget for 2025, “the highest in history”, which reaches the “record” of 15,084 million euros, or 3.58 percent. more than those currently in force, which already represented an increase of more than five percent compared to previous accounts.
The first for Mañueco alone during the five years he has been at the head of the Regional Executive (first with the PP in coalition with Ciudadanos, during the last legislature, and since July with Vox) and which he highlighted that eight euros out of ten go to social policies and underlined “that they serve to meet the challenges” of the Community “with people in mind”.
These accounts, for the highest president, “they must serve as a lever for transformation” with more than 2 billion intended for investments and policies against depopulation and “low taxation”, he emphasized, accompanied in the presentation by the Minister of Economy and Finance and spokesperson, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, who must be precisely in charge negotiation with political groups so that they can move forward.
Fernández Mañueco defended that they were “good” budgets and hoped to have “the support” of the Cortes groups. Firstly, he specified, in order to “validate” the expenditure ceiling which the Governing Council approved in an extraordinary session and on which most of the accounts are based. Once they have obtained this approval, which is not guaranteed today, it will be time to “move forward” with the approval of the budgets, the preliminary draft of which was presented this Tuesday.
There are conversations, Mañueco emphasized, in which “it is not a question” of imposing or removing “tolls, requirements”, but of “nobility of spirit”. “To be able to move away from red lines and inalienable positions” and sit down to negotiate “with an open mind about the agreement”.
Whether the accounts planned for 2025 are carried out or not, the President of the Council reiterated his intention to exhaust the legislature (February 2026). “In no case will the approval of budgets be conditional on the end of the legislature,” he clarified.
