The Civil Guard intervened in a supermarket in Barcelona 5.000 condoms that not only were they counterfeit because they copied a well-known brand, but they were also useless and did not meet minimum requirements quality controls. The guards confiscated the product which would have posed more than a serious problem to future buyers and accused the person responsible for crimes against public health.
The events took place on the 7th after agents of the Civil Guard specializing in the fight against smuggling and tax crimes from the Tax and Border Patrol (PAFIF) based in Gavà, obtained information on the possible arrival for their sale of a batch of counterfeit condoms from a well. known brand which did not comply with the quality controls required by current regulations.
After detecting the exact location where these sales were taking place, the agents went to a supermarket in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona where, despite the opposition of the director of the establishment, of Bangladeshi origin, the guards proceeded during an inspection and located the shipment of 4,947 counterfeit condoms.
During the same inspection, officers also discovered and seized 353 lighters and 6,050 packets of cigarette paper on sale and in the warehouse. All these products, counterfeit and manufactured in China and Thailand, imitated recognized brands and their market value could have reached 12,836 euros.
The manager of the establishment is listed as being investigated for two misdemeanors. That of counterfeiting to market fake condoms of the well-known brand. He is also accused of a crime against public health since the condoms had not passed minimum quality control, which represents an obvious danger due to the materials used in their manufacture, but also due to the problems that the Use of unnecessary condoms could cause future users.
The Civil Guard recalls that the use of this type of counterfeit products, which do not comply with established quality or health controls, represents a serious risk for the safety and health of consumers.
