DJ Chris Oberman, 38, from Rotterdam (Netherlands), left his hometown in 2018 and constantly moves from one country to another. Together with his wife and young son, he travels around the world, staying in each country for about two years.

Between 2022 and 2024, Chris was stationed in Erbil, Iraq. He calls it “the most beautiful place” despite witnessing missiles flying over the city and hearing drone explosions just three kilometers from his house.
He said that Iraq is not just a conflict zone, this country has two sides.
“I saw both. The crime rate there is very low. The people are friendly and always willing to help. In addition, nature is impressive: there are snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and impressive canyons,” shared the traveler.
Near Erbil, about 150 kilometers northeast, is the Choman area, which Chris considers “one of the most picturesque places” he has visited in two years in the Middle East.
“That’s what I love about traveling, when you start to realize how different everything is from your understanding of the world,” he adds.
From 2019 to 2022, Chris’ family lived in China, which was a completely new experience compared to life in Iraq.
“China is a huge, crazy country. I remember one time I left home for a while and when I came back, the police were already at my door, accusing me of violating the quarantine. I thought, ‘How did they know?’ that I left?'” recalls the traveler.
Now he, his wife and son live in Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
“It’s the complete opposite of Iraq. There are similarities with China because there are also many restrictions: don’t sit here, don’t go there. Also, it’s very humid: at 30 degrees it’s hard to move,” he said. duck.
The Oberman family is planning their next move to South America and has already started learning Spanish.
