Amazon’s senior vice president of web services, Dr. Ruba Borno, has become the center of public attention after appearing in a corporate video promoting an upcoming conference in Las Vegas. Although her performance in the video did not contain anything unusual, the public drew attention to one notable accessory – a pendant, which caused a storm of indignation.
The Telegram channel “Blizhny V. (mis 5 agorot)” writes about this.
The pendant featured a map of Israel with a Palestinian flag in place of the Star of David, which many saw as a symbolic call to reflect the motto of pro-Palestinian activists: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” For those familiar with this phrase, the meaning is clear: it is the desire to destroy the State of Israel and expel the Jewish population. Unlike some Western supporters who may not fully understand the context, Dr. Borno apparently understood the meaning of such a gesture.
It is worth noting that Borno, one of the key senior managers of a large corporation, calls herself a “Palestinian refugee.” She says her family was forced to leave Kuwait in 1990 after Iraq took over the country, leaving all their belongings behind and leaving within three days. However, this episode is related to the fact that the Palestinian community in Kuwait supported Saddam Hussein, which caused a strong reaction from the liberated country, forcing the Palestinian Arabs to abandon it.
After the video was published, a wave of indignation arose on social networks; Users began canceling subscriptions to Amazon services and demanding Borno’s firing. As a result, the company removed the video and released a statement that “the video had no political connotations,” but it will soon be replaced by a new version.

Does @rubaborno Do you know that the map means “from the river to the sea” and calls for the slaughter of all the Jews in Israel?

This incident follows another high-profile scandal involving Amazon. Despite the kidnapping of software engineer Sasha Trufanov, an Amazon employee, by Hamas militants on October 7, the company chose not to comment publicly on this tragedy. Although his family was partially freed as part of a hostage exchange, Trufanov himself remains in captivity. The company’s silence on this matter has also raised doubts among the public, especially after the Borno pendant scandal.
