The Police are carrying out a major operation this Wednesday which results, for the moment, in a dozen detainees and 16 searches in the Three Thousand Houses district of Seville, where last Saturday a shooting without injury with assault weapons.
In an intervention to the press, the deputy delegate of the Government in Seville, Francisco Toscano, indicated that in this operation, already planned in advance, but which was “amplified and intensified” after what happened last week -last end, Around 300 agents from different units participate -including airlines- and 50 police vehicles.
In this operation which remains open and in which control all access to the neighborhoodvarious “unauthorized materials” were also seized, although Toscano did not specify that they were combat weapons like those that have alarmed the population of the Polígono Sur of Seville in recent days.
The subdelegate insisted that the operation was already planned beforehand and, while some documents may help clarify Saturday’s shooting, he has no evidence yet that there was no arrests in relation to this specific eventthe exact causes of which cannot be confirmed either.
He also clarified that the only recorded shooting in the area was one that took place in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday and that subsequently the recorded emergency calls were for “pyrotechnic material” in Monday’s case.
The subdelegate, who clarified that these data are “provisional” and may be expanded or modified as the operation progresses, also sent a “message to wealthy residents” of Polígono Sur and reminded them that “they can count on” the Spanish government.
“Whenever the National Police considers that, from an operational point of view, it is necessary to carry out operations of this type, they will be carried out,” continued Toscano, who appreciated the work and professionalism. “beyond any doubt” of the National Police for the “daily defense” of rights and freedoms. “What we have to do is defend and guarantee that they can carry out all their work correctly. The Spanish government does not shirk its responsibilities and this is further proof that it is fulfilling its functions,” he stressed.
On the other hand, after the mayor, José Luis Sanz, requested an emergency meeting, he stressed that considering that the reality of this area of the capital is limited exclusively to a security problem was a mistake. “The South Polygon continues occupying the last positions in business of poverty across the state,” he noted.
In this sense, he added that, if they do not apply housing policies, town planning, employment actions and a task fully accomplished, he fears that in a few months we will again talk about an “unfortunate event” like that of last Saturday and that he will return “to square one”.
According to sources such as the Polígono Sur commissioner, the shooting that occurred this weekend in the Tres Propiedades neighborhood, where neighbors were alarmed by hearing automatic or semi-automatic weapon fire early in the morning, could have its origin in the differences between the different clans dedicated to drug trafficking in this part of Seville.
