The parade of the Santa Catalina Tomàs carriage is celebrated this Saturday

The triumphal float of Saint Catherine Tomàs will parade again in Palma this Saturday (6:30 p.m.) in a special parade with the participation of more than 900 people from 36 groups and the recovery of the Joch de Ministrils, a musical group of great historical significance that will once again perform at official events on the island after decades of absence.

The parade will present notable new features such as the restoration of the triumphal float. “This year is a very special year, since we have dedicated the whole of 2024 to celebrating the anniversary of the 450 years since the death of Saint Catherine Thomas»recalled the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, during the presentation of the event.

This edition of the parade will see the participation of more than 900 people from different municipalities on the island, surpassing last year’s attendance figure.

The procession will begin at the Plaza de l’Hospital and will walk through the streets of Palma to the Plaza de Santa Magdalena, where the body of the saint will be honored.

The tour will feature floats, historical figures, giants, musical groups and restored Tomasian banners. A total of 35 musical and dance groups participate in the parade. This is a record figure and adds to the longest run in the last 20 years, as was done last year.

The president of the island highlighted the recovery, a year ago, of the splendor of the celebration of this holiday, lost in recent years.

“We continue to work to recover the festivals that are part of our historical and cultural heritage, which are part of our city and which must be preserved to ensure their continuity over time,” he added.

In addition to the triumphal parade of cars, the Consell de Mallorca, the Bishopric of Mallorca and the Canonica de Santa Magdalena, with the collaboration of Palma City Council, organized complementary activities.

The parade will follow the route between Plaza del Hospital, Costa de la Sang, La Rambla, Calle de la Riera, Calle de la Unió, Plaza del Mercat, Calle de la Unió, Avenida de Jaume III, Calle de Bonaire, Calle del Bisbe Campins. , via Roma, Costa de la Sang, Calle del Jardí Botànic and Plaza de Santa Magdalena.

Representatives from Palma, Andratx, Bunyola, Consell, Llucmajor, Marratxí, Montuïri, Muro, Pollença, Porreres, Santa Margalida, Santanyí, Selva, Sencelles, Sóller, Son Servera, Valldemossa and Vilafranca de Bonany will participate in the event.
