“We see direct and apparently deliberate fire”

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) denounced the actions of the Israeli army on Wednesday a new attack against one of their positions in southern Lebanese territory, in this case against a surveillance tower near Kafer Kela, a few kilometers from the Israeli town of Metula.

An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) “Merkava” battle tank fired on UNIFIL positions, destroy two surveillance cameras and causing damage to the tower, as detailed by the United Nations international mission on Lebanese territory in a statement published on its website.

“Once again we are witnessing direct and apparently deliberate fire against a UNIFIL position,” reads the letter, which reminds the IDF and “all actors” of their obligation “to ensure the protection and security of United Nations personnel and property and to respect inviolability. The UN mission in Lebanon has already suffered several attacks by the Israeli armyeven confirming several “blue helmets” injuredas well as the incursion of a Israeli tank in one of its bases. The Israeli authorities, for their part, assure that UNIFIL serves as “human shield” for Hezbollah.

Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah erupted just over a year ago when the militia launched projectiles into Israeli territory in solidarity with the Palestinian cause and after Hamas allegedly attacked Israelcausing nearly 1,200 deaths and 240 hostages, which motivated the bloody Israeli response, which totaled more than 42,300 deaths in the Gaza Strip and about 750 in West Bank And East Jerusalem.
