The PP calls for criminal proceedings against Armengol’s Minister of Health for lying about the Koldo affair

The Balearic PP calls for criminal proceedings against former socialist councilor Patricia Gómez, head of Health in Francina Armengol’s government, after hiding her contacts with Koldo during the commission of inquiry held in Parliament.

Through a document recorded in the Chamber, the people demand that the Council transfers to the Prosecutor’s Office the “socialist lies” discovered following the UCO investigation published this Saturday by ABC.

During his appearance on May 24, Gómez hid from the parliamentary commission of inquiry after speaking with the former advisor to the former Minister José Luis Abalos to purchase medical supplies during the pandemic. He denied it twice, questioned by popular deputy José Luis Mateo.

“Can you tell us if you maintained telephone or message contact or any other type of contact with any of the people allegedly involved in the alleged corruption plot to buy masks?” Mateo asked. to which the socialist deputy replied “no, never”. .

“I repeat to you: did you maintain telephone or message contact with Mr. Koldo García, Mateo insisted?” “I can tell you no,” Gómez said flatly.

The UCO report denies this. On August 17, 2020 at 7:19 a.m., Koldo – without introduction – asks Armengol if she is on vacation and can he call her. “Maybe at noon I will have a moment to try,” she replies, who gives him the same afternoon the telephone contact of her Minister of Health, Patricia Gómez, current socialist deputy of the Balearic Islands. Koldo replied, “Okay, honey, I’ll keep you posted on everything,” in a confident tone.

The next day, Koldo sends Patricia Gómez’s contact to Ignacio Díaz Tapa, partner of Víctor de Aldama. On August 21, 2020, Gómez wrote to Koldo to tell him that at 9:30 a.m. “Nacho Díaz is coming.” Thanks to the WhatsApp conversation between Tapia and Gómez, the UCO was able to verify that the meeting took place on August 21, 2020 at the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Balearic Islands, in Palma.

Thanks to this conversation with the Minister of Health, Tapia would have had access to other prominent members of the Ministry of Health such as Ignacio García, Manuel Palomino or Juli Fuster.

Subsequently, Eurofins Megalab won at least two contracts with the Health Service of the Balearic Islands for a total amount of 1,112,640.00 euros for the performance of Covid-19 diagnostic tests on Balearic residents returning to the Islands by air from the Peninsula. Both contracts were awarded using the negotiated procedure without publicity.

Based on this appearance, the PP demands that action be taken against Gómez for lying. The most popular point out that the Penal Code stipulates in its article 502.3 that false testimony during a commission of inquiry must be punished by a prison sentence of six months to one year or a fine of 12 to 24 months. . Thus, the popular parliamentary group informs the regional chamber of these events “so that measures can be taken for the appropriate purposes.”

The PP argues that “the UCO reports demonstrate that the former Minister of Health lied to the commission by assuring, on two occasions, that she never had contact with the plot, and specifically with Koldo . “We will continue to monitor all appearances of members of the Armengol government, including the former president, to detect any type of inconsistency, omission of the truth or lies,” stressed the PP spokesperson in Regional Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras.
