The official age of marriage in Azerbaijan is 18 years. Under the previous law, it was possible to reduce this limit by 1 year if there were good reasons. Thus, if there are good reasons, the competent executive authority of the area where persons wishing to marry and who are under the age of marriage live, could, upon their request, allow the age of marriage to be reduced by no more than 1 year. However, this year the law was amended and this rule was cancelled.
According to Modern.az, the number of officially registered brides under 18 in 2023 was 223.
