The monumental traffic jam in Madrid’s Plaza Castilla: “Look what a mousetrap, let’s see who’s moving”

The rainy day experienced this Wednesday left for posterity an image that clearly defines what happens in Madrid when it rains with a certain intensity. It was taken from one of the offices surrounding the Plaza de Castilla and shows a place completely collapsed by traffic, with dozens of cars and buses stuck unable to navigate to the available exits.

“Look what a mousetrap, they can’t move,” explained @cuchimotera, the person who recorded the video from his workplace and uploaded it to Tik Tok, commenting on the monumental traffic jam formed under his feet. “One that came together in an instant,” he said before explaining that he had been thinking about the incident for 20 minutes.

The video shows how the square is collapsing due to the heavy traffic coming from the north of Paseo de la Castellana and Avenida de Asturias, which coincides with a high level of vehicles that also want to access from Bravo Murillo and from the south of Castellana. Everyone is trying to get into this communication node and no one seems to be able to get out. “Let’s see who makes a move,” asks the author of the recording.

The video quickly went viral this Wednesday after user X also shared it on this social network.

“Definition of hell,” was his brief comment.

From here, some common comments on this type of events. “It’s raining a little and no one knows how to drive anymore,” Curculionido said.

“What a beautiful Madrid and what a critical and public success its mobility model,” added another, sharing the same video.

“Mobility in Madrid is deteriorating. The traffic jams this morning were impressive. “It takes me twice as long to get to work as it did a few months ago,” Sergio Pozo assured in a publication in which he asks Madrid City Hall to “get its act together”.

Wednesday was a very complicated day for all transport in Madrid: on the Cercanías network, The Sol tunnel was closed for part of the morning and in the metro, waterfalls and leaks have been recorded inside the cars, as shown by Carlos González.

To look at you with tenderness

I learned since I was little

Because you are pure glory
