Cepsa Chemical has launched NextLab-R Low Carbon, the world’s first linear alkylbenzene (LAB) – the most widely used product in the production of detergents – with a negative carbon footprint, from the origin of the raw material to its production, explains the company.
Presented this year at Sepawa, which was held from October 16 to 18 in Berlin, The LAB is capable of achieving a reduction in carbon footprint of up to -102% from the origin of the raw material to the manufacturing of the product, reducing the carbon footprint of final laundry detergents by up to a third.
This new LAB is the result of combining the use of alternative renewable raw materials and the use of renewable energy in part of its production process.
Produced in the Puente Mayorga chemical plant (Cádiz), LAB could reduce the carbon footprint of final detergents by up to a third, from the origin of the raw material to the manufacture of the final product.
The production of the new NextLab-R Low Carbon is ISCC Plus certified, which confirms the traceability of the renewable raw materials used in its manufacture. Furthermore, Aenor has verified, using the certification system developed in collaboration with Cepsa Químicatraceability in the use of renewable energy during the production process.
The director of Cepsa Química, Jose Maria Solanasaid the launch of NextLab-R Low Carbon “represents a global milestone for the detergent industry.”
“For the first time, we have succeeded in producing a LAB with a negative carbon footprint (“cradle-to-gate”), in line with Cepsa Química’s environmental and decarbonization objectives. These goals are reflected in the Positive Motion strategy with which we want to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable chemistry that allows us, as a company, to achieve our climate neutrality in 2050,” he said.
Cepsa Química is a world leader in the manufacturing of LAB, due to its production capacity, with almost 18% of global production, but also thanks to its technological innovation, such as that achieved in the development of Retail technology in collaboration with UOP. , the most effective and safest in the preparation of the LAB. In 2021, the company launched the first sustainable LAB, NextLab-R, made with renewable raw materials and the first in the NextLab family.
