Tax Council majority calls on Attorney General to step down after Supreme Court decides to investigate him

Seven of the 12 members of the Fiscal Council (including the State Attorney General) this afternoon asked Álvaro García Ortiz to reconsider his decision to stay in office and resign, given that the Supreme Court will investigate him for an alleged revelation of the secrets of the companion of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The six members of the Association of Prosecutors and the advisor of the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors believe that García Ortiz should leave his position for the benefit of the institution.

The former released a statement in which they asserted that the Attorney General’s decision to maintain his mandate “calls into question the credibility of the actions of all members of the career, well beyond the scope of this process, due to the principles of hierarchical dependence and unity of action”.

“We find absolutely unacceptable the impact produced inside and outside our borders by the image of a public prosecutor led by a state attorney general indicted by the Supreme Court,” they add.

According to him, “there can be no more serious consequence for the public prosecutor than to support the progressive deterioration of the institution, of which it intends to continue to hold the senior management and representation, despite its status as an institution under investigation” .
