Electricity consumption in Russia will increase this year.
The operator of the Unified Energy System of Russia predicts in the materials of the draft scheme and program for the development of electric power systems until 2030 (S&P) that electricity consumption in Russia in 2024 will amount to 1,158,695 million kWh.
“By the end of 2023, consumption in the unified energy system was approximately 1.12 trillion kWh. Therefore, we are talking about a possible increase in the indicator by 3.3%.” – Interfax writes.
The reasons for the increase could be an increase in industrial consumption or colder winters and hotter summers, which affect overall demand.
According to the System Operator, consumption could grow to 1.3 billion kWh by 2030.
“The average annual growth rate of electricity consumption and peak energy consumption in relation to 2023 will be 2.14 and 1.44%, respectively.” – says the materials of the draft scheme and programme for the development of electric power systems until 2030 (CPS). More than 1,400 investment projects with a total electric energy consumption of 90,724.8 million kWh were taken into account.
At the same time, the volume of new generation is expected to be 17.07 GW: of which 3.85 GW will come from nuclear power plants, 7.6 GW from thermal power plants and 4.52 GW from renewable energy sources.
