With 56 years of history, the IES Juan Bosco of Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real) can boast of being the largest institute in all of Castile-La Mancha. With nearly 1,900 students and 150 teachers, this educational center is a reference and has many successes to its credit, since throughout these years many young people have been trained in compulsory secondary education and the baccalaureate, as well as in their professional training cycles. are what made him famous.
However, in recent years there has been an insoluble problem in this center, but for reasons beyond the control of its teachers and students, namely the age of many spaces in the building, where leaks are increasing, so much so that heavy rains these days forced the suspension of classes this Thursday. This is what he told ABC director of IES Juan Bosco, Manuel Acerawhich describes a desolate panorama of the state in which many classrooms in the FP modules have been left, notably those of electricity and electronics, which are almost flooded and with much material damage as yet unquantified.
The head of the institute recalls that the problems encountered in terms of leaks “are not new, but have lasted for more than 20 years”, before he headed the center. Something that has been repeated with the rains of recent days, which have flooded the corridors of a good part of the neighborhood. building, which dates from 1968 and has not undergone major renovations to resolve the damage accumulated over time.
There are many leaks, particularly in the workshop spaces where FP is taught, where there are power outages, leaks through the false ceiling and through which water infiltrates and floods the rooms classrooms and corridors, where pallets had to be placed on the floor. floor so you can walk around without getting your shoes or pants wet.
As noted, several electronic devices were damaged. “They break down and can endanger the safety of students and teachers through contact with water and electricity, as well as the risk of roof collapse.” For this reason, the decision taken by the management of the center in collaboration with the teaching staff is to suspend classes in the affected classrooms until these problems are resolved or, at least, until it there is no longer any danger for students and teachers. About a hundred students were affected by this.
The story comes from afar, because the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports between 2016 and 2019, Ángel Felpeteithermet with them to try to resolve all these problems, but until January 2023 the Government of Castile-La Mancha has not launched a call for tenders, by emergency procedure, the works to replace the FP workshops from IES Juan Bosco, with a budget offer of 5,247,000 euros.
The work began in the summer of 2023, but one month after the start of the work winning company, the national construction company Seranco SAcrippled them and demanded more money to continue, citing rising material prices. So, until the Council of Communities terminated the contract with it and is now waiting for a new tender.
