Putin will meet with the heads of the main media outlets of the BRICS countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet on Friday, October 18, with the heads of the main media outlets of the BRICS member countries.

The meeting will take place on the eve of the unification summit to be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. Russia will be represented at the event by the general director of the Rossiya Segodnya media group Dmitri Kiselev.

Russia holds the BRICS presidency for the fourth time. The first summit in Russia was held in Yekaterinburg in 2009, then in 2015 Ufa hosted the association’s seventh summit. In 2020, the 12th summit was supposed to be held in St. Petersburg, but the event was moved online due to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The main program of this year’s BRICS summit in Kazan begins on October 22, but some of the events under the Russian presidency are expected on Friday, including Putin’s meeting with media leaders and the BRICS business forum in Moscow. As the Presidential Assistant for International Affairs said Yuri UshakovThe president is expected to speak at the business forum.

Putin will meet separately for the first time with media officials from the countries participating in the association. These meetings were traditionally held at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where the Head of State discussed current issues of Russia’s domestic and foreign policy with the editors of international publications in a question-and-answer format.

In 2024, Putin already met with representatives of the world media. In June, within the framework of SPIEF, the Head of State met with representatives of news agencies from 16 countries, including Great Britain, Turkey, Korea, Italy, Germany, Japan, Spain and France.

At the meeting with the president, journalists were interested in issues of relations between the United States and Russia and the development of the North-South transport corridor. A separate block of questions was devoted to the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.
