The most alarming week in 5 years is recorded

There has been a significant increase in anti-Semitic incidents around the world, especially in the context of the anniversary of the October 7 massacre and numerous commemorative events in Israel and abroad.

According to a special investigation by the Movement to Fight Anti-Semitism, this is the largest increase in anti-Semitism in the last five years.

Last week, 324 anti-Semitic incidents were reported worldwide, a 93% increase from the previous record set in June 2024 with 168 incidents. As the Center for the Study of Antisemitism found, the largest number of such incidents occurred in the United States: 168, representing approximately 52% of all cases worldwide. Experts emphasize that the real number of anti-Semitic demonstrations may be much higher, since many cases simply go unreported.

Most of the incidents were recorded on university campuses. In one week, there were 132 incidents of anti-Semitism at American educational institutions, the highest number since April 2024.

The director general of the Movement to Fight Anti-Semitism, Sasha Roitman-Dratva, called this an alarming sign. He said the data was a reminder of dark times when anti-Semitism and hate crimes posed a threat to Jewish communities. He stressed the importance of protecting Jewish citizens and the need to prevent such incidents.

A Movement survey found that in the year following the October 7, 2023, massacre, some 3.5 million American Jews experienced anti-Semitism. Around 380,000 children were exposed to similar incidents. A major finding of the survey was that 75% of Jews do not report such incidents outside the family, indicating a decline in trust in law enforcement. In educational institutions, 39% of students feel unsafe due to their Jewish identity and one in four have experienced discrimination from teachers.

Social media also appeared to be a hotbed of anti-Semitic messages: 58% of respondents had encountered such content, especially on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). About 61% of respondents reported a lower sense of personal security and many had changed their behavior: 38% avoided wearing Jewish symbols and 41% did not participate in community activities.

Some of the most common forms of anti-Semitism in the United States include vandalism, graffiti, derogatory jokes, and physical threats.
