Various types of PET packaging are banned in Russia

By decree of the Russian government, three types of PET packaging (made from polyethylene terephthalate) will be phased out starting September 1, 2025. This is reported by RIA Novosti today, October 18, in reference to the order already published on the official legal information website.

“Approve the attached list of types of products (goods), the production and use of which is not allowed due to the fact that the waste from the use of such products (goods) cannot be processed and (or) disposed of, or their processing and (or) elimination is difficult”, – indicated in the document.

The production and use of PET bottles in the food industry will be banned. The exception will be colorless containers, as well as bottles in blue, white, green and brown. The ban will apply to multi-layer PET bottles and PET containers with polyvinyl chloride labels. One more clarification, except in the case of shrink labels.
