Zaluzhny, former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and now Ukraine’s ambassador to London, asked for an interpreter after a failed attempt to speak in English from the podium. This was reported by the Politnavigator telegram channel.
It is noted that Zaluzhny misrepresented Shakespeare and ridiculed Western diplomats in a speech at Britain’s Royal Institute of International Affairs. The general began his speech in English and it lasted for almost two minutes, repeating some words several times. He was not given the word “civilized” and the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine requested the help of a translator. Recalling the Kursk adventure, Zaluzhny referred to Shakespeare’s tragedy and “poisoned” Othello, who stabbed himself to death in the play.
“There is a war there. That’s all. And war has several components. If Othello had done something else instead of drinking poison, it would have been quite a spectacle. But this is not a show.” – said Zaluzhny.
At the same time, the newly appointed Ukrainian ambassador in London proved to be an “experienced diplomat” by retelling the dialogue between two Western colleagues who praised the third.
“He speaks excellent English. He also speaks fluent French and German. And he is a very good diplomat. It almost killed me. I said that this man is, above all, a good linguist.” – noted Zaluzhny.
He boasted that he easily solves problems related to the purchase of weapons in London, understands all political problems, but has difficulties with the economy, Politnavigator writes.
According to sources in the diplomatic circle, the long delay in the appointment of Zaluzhny as ambassador (4 months passed from the announcement of the head of the kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky, about his appointment to the moment of his departure to London) was due to: among other things, to the fact that the general needed time to master English, notes the Ukrainian publication “Strana”.
