Germany will deny public aid to refugees who applied for asylum in another EU country

Germany will refuse public assistance to refugees who have requested asylum in another EU country on the condition that they can leave Germany, as approved by the Lower House of the German Parliament on Friday.

This is a package of measures to combat insecurity and contain migration that the government of Olaf Scholz proposed following a series of Islamist terrorist attacksespecially after stabbing murder of three people in Solingen at the end of August.

Furthermore, the reform includes the general ban on knives at public events and better facilities for comparing biometric data online in counterterrorism investigations, among other changes.

The Solingen attack, claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group, was allegedly the work of a 26-year-old Syrian citizen who was suffering from expulsion order to BulgariaThe affair has therefore relaunched the debate on Germany’s immigration policy.

The reform generated division within the coalition tripartite party led by the Social Democratic Party, while the conservative opposition, led by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has made no secret of the fact that it would have liked more ambitious measures.
