Biden on Israel’s retaliatory attack on Iran

US President Joe Biden said he “knows how and when Israel will respond” to a missile attack by Iran in early October. However, Biden declined to reveal more details about Israel’s plans. The President also expressed hope in the possibility of facilitating a ceasefire in Lebanon, adding that the situation in the Gaza Strip may prove more difficult to resolve.

Biden’s statement came after his phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night and after a senior Israeli official said action would soon be taken in response to the Iranian attack.

On October 1, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, Iran fired around 180 ballistic missiles at Israel, targeting the southern and central regions of the country. As a result of the rocket attack, 1,864 air raid signals were activated in various populated areas. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said the attack was in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian General Abbas Nilproshan in an earlier attack in Dahaiya.

While the details of Israel’s response to the Iranian attack remain unclear, President Biden signaled that diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon could prove successful. However, the situation in the Gaza Strip, he said, poses more difficulties in achieving peace.

Previously, Kursor wrote that Iran could respond to Israel’s retaliatory strike with a broader missile strike.
