It seemed unexpected crossing between Fast and Furious And Two meters underground. The Local Police of O Porriño (Pontevedra) carried out the Operation Caba -named in honor of a deceased colleague- an intervention aimed at deactivating a “massive” concentration of vehicles and people in the Océanis-Cataboi industrial zone. Among those involved, in addition to vehicles over twenty years old and modern cars, the presence of a hearse was highlighted.
As reported by the City Hall through a press release collected by Europa Press, the event was convened through social networks and there were driving demonstrations and illegal races, which generated “a serious risk for the public safety.
For several weeks, the authorities have detected an increase in the concentration of cars and visitors on the polygon on Saturday evenings.
Initially, as noted, these meetings were “simple gatherings”, but over time they evolved into “illegal races and dangerous maneuvers”, such as spins that compromised the safety of “nearly ‘a thousand people present’.
The operation, in honor of the late local policeman Manuel Cabaleiro Martínez, was coordinated by the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of O Porriño. An extensive police system has been put in place, including the use of drones and other technical means to document violations.
Drivers surveyed
On October 13 at 12:55 a.m., the police unexpectedly closed all access to the industrial zone, forcing vehicles to exit through a single authorized passage, where exhaustive checks were carried out. As a result of the operation, five drivers were investigated for suspected road safety violations (reckless driving).
In addition, nine drivers face administrative complaints, with penalties of 500 euros and the loss of 6 points on their license. More than 20 violations of the General Vehicle Regulations were recorded, as well as complaints for driving without insurance and without a seat belt.
Investigations have revealed that such concentrations are taking place in several municipalities in the region and the neighboring country, with organizers implementing surveillance measures to detect police presence.
hearse vehicle
Vehicles involved in these illegal races have ranged from cars over 20 years old to modern vehicles, including a hearse.
The accused were summoned to the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of O Porriño, where four of them accepted the prison sentence and the withdrawal of their driving licenses requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while awaiting their appearance with their designated lawyer.
