The three people arrested for labor exploitation of 60 migrants in La Rioja are released

The Court of Instruction number 3 of Logroño did not order prison for the three men arrested as alleged perpetrators of staying in a chalet in Villamediana, which was in unsanitary conditions, to 60 migrants exploited by workwho, in many cases, were forced to harvest up to 9 hours a day, with only a quarter of an hour to eat.

The Superior Court of Justice of La Rioja detailed this decision of the Court this Friday, once the detainees were presented in court last Wednesday. The Civil Guard arrested these three peopleaged 44 to 52, as alleged perpetrators of violations of workers’ rights, injuries and failure to provide assistance.

Data provided Thursday by the Civil Guard during an information conference indicate that these migrants, most of them from North Africa and 15 of them in an irregular situation in Spain, “lived under the constant threat of losing their only means of subsistence. They received 8 euros per hour for their work in the harvests, a little less than what was stipulated in the contract of 8.93 euros, but they had to pay between 120 and 140 euros per month to reside in the house; as well as payment for transportation costs and the use of butane bottles for cooking.

The chalet, located 6 kilometers from Logroño, did not have adequate ventilation or hygienic conditions.
