One of the biggest problems in our current society is related to early marriages. Unfortunately, in Azerbaijan the number of such cases is not small.
According to Article 1.4 of the Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the legal regulation of marriage and family relations in the Republic of Azerbaijan is carried out by the State, and only marriages concluded before the competent executive authority are recognized. Article 1.5 of the Code states that religious marriage (religious marriage) has no legal meaning.
The age of marriage in Azerbaijan is 18 years old and people under that age cannot start a family.
Modern.az contacted the State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Issues of the Republic of Azerbaijan to obtain information on the number of early marriages prevented during the current year.
The institution reported that as soon as the committee, as well as the 11 Child and Family Support Centers operating under the committee, receive information on early marriage and child marriage, visits to families are organized with the participation of representatives of those centers, local executive authorities. and the police are explained the intended responsibility, appropriate measures are taken to prevent such situations:
“During the current year, the State Committee received 16 applications related to early marriages. The applications were investigated. In total, 11 of the 16 applications were rejected and one was considered unfounded.”
According to the information provided, in addition, during the year 15 family visits related to early marriage and child marriage were carried out by the Child and Family Support Centers:
“Ten of them were based on requests received by Child and Family Support Centers in relation to early marriage and forced marriage, two were based on requests received from the media in relation to child marriage and Centers discovered three cases of early marriage. Seven early marriages were detected as a result of family visits, the case was prevented, four applications were considered unfounded (the case of early marriage was not detected).
At the same time, the State Committee and the Child and Family Support Centers dependent on the committee organize visits to the families of children who do not attend education and who are in a socially dangerous situation with the participation of representatives of the relevant institutions, of individual prevention. We work with children, acts of early marriage and child marriage are detected, preventive measures are being taken to organize visits to families and prevent marriages.
