A 27-year-old woman, of Argentine nationality, was arrested by the national police after trying to kill her six-year-old daughter by suffocating her with a cushion, at the family home in Palma. The mother called the ambulance when she realized the girl was having a seizure. She is charged with an alleged felony of attempted murder.
The UFAM of the National Police became aware of the events after the young girl was admitted to hospital. The mother told doctors that the girl felt pressure in her chest while they were watching TV on the couch at home. However, the little girl had injuries to her mouth suggesting attempted asphyxiation.
After her release, the minor told her caregiver that her mother tried to suffocate her with a pillow until she lost consciousness. The caregiver alerted the police and agents from the Family and Women Unit (UFAM) that the young girl was afraid to go home and did not want to be with her mother.
The officers opened an investigation to clarify the facts and after taking several statements, they discovered that the mother had allegedly taken a cushion to try to suffocate the young girl. The minor started having seizures and that’s when the mother realized what she was doing and called an ambulance.
Officers arrested the suspected killer, who was brought to court and exercised his right not to testify. The girl was placed in the care of a relative while child protective services were activated.
