Yusif Budagov studied at secondary school No. 132 in Baku. His mother remembers:
“Yusif studied well, but he was a little lazy. He was a clean and well-spoken child. As he was the only child in the house, we did not care about his words. He also respected us, listened to us and supported us. He had a serious character, but “He had a fragile heart. He liked to do good. He liked sports, especially his peers. When he was in college, he earned the respect of soldiers and commanders, his friends at work.”
After completing his military service, Yusif graduated from the Faculty of Design. Then the family lived at 51 Mehdi Huseyn Street, Sabail district. There is now a bas-relief of Yusif at that address:
“Yusif got a job as a chief technician at a clinic near our house. Then, when my husband was diagnosed with oncology, we mortgaged our house to the bank for the money. Since we couldn’t pay, they confiscated the house and we started living in a rented house and told us that everything would be fine and that we would buy a house again.
Y. Budagov participated in military training as a reserve soldier before the start of the Patriotic War. From there he went to war…
“Soon Shusha will be ours…”
Yusif already knew how difficult the battle was. He served on the front line as a sniper. His military service coincided with the April battles:
“Yusif was proud to have participated in the April battles. He told us and his friends about the cowardice of the enemy and said that if there is a war, we will liberate our land from the enemy for a month.”
But the battles of April left a deep scar in his memory: his close friend died in his arms. Since then, his hatred towards the enemy has increased even more. The beginning of the Patriotic War fueled this hatred even more…
“Yusif’s war began in Fuzuli. Later he participated in the battles for the liberation of Jabrayil, Zangila and Gubadli. We spoke often on the phone,” said mother Latafat. Armenians run for us to enjoy. Soon Shusha will be ours,” he said. Yusif’s concern was only for me. In the voice message he sent to his friend’s phone: “Who should go to war… We should go, we should free the land from occupation. Children must protect the country, those who flee and hide, cowards are not among us. I’m happy about that. My concern is for my mother. “He’s alone, I don’t want him to think and worry about me,” he said.

Yusif called his mother for the last time on October 13. Before participating in the battles for the liberation of Khojavend from occupation, he contacted his mother and told her to “save her prayers.” “I also prayed day and night for all our soldiers,” the mother remembers those days.
After the battles for Khojavand, Latafat’s mother could not hear from her son. The worried mother went to Fuzuli accompanied by employees of the Sabail District Police Department:
“I saw that there was no news from Yusif. I went after my son myself. I had hope. “If my son were a martyr, they would not hide this bad news from me. Yusif is probably injured, I will go see if he is alive in the hospital. I will bandage my son’s wounds, I will kiss him, I will caress him, we will return together to Baku,” I thought along the way. We reached Fuzuli and said his name, as soon as a man in a military uniform opened the notebook in front of him. – “Yusif Budagov “He is a martyr” – he said… My son’s body is in the morgue, it was in the refrigerator, his face was revealed, the bullet hit his heart… My son’s body was handed over to me on October 31. We buried him in Badamdar cemetery…”
“I wish he would come…”
Latafat’s mother now lives alone. He also receives a house and the State supports his social assistance. District IH representatives and directors of various institutions visit the mother frequently. Mother Latafat decorated the walls of her house with photographs of Yusif. Now, this is not just any house, but a museum of our martyred hero. It is an oath for children and young people. Yusif’s childhood, his school and university years, his military service, his period of work and, finally, the days he spent at the front are immortalized in the photographs. A young man with rings, good looks and a brave appearance says in the photos: “Now I keep these photos. I look at them, I talk to them and I find comfort. A large bust was erected at the high school where he studied. A street received its name in the Badamdar settlement, and a spring was built in his name in Hokmali, the settlement where his father was buried… But I wish he would come…”
