Syria takes action over fears of IDF attacks: media

The Syrian authorities are taking active measures in anticipation of possible attacks by the Israeli army (IDF), strengthening control over the actions of allies on its territory.

According to Sky News Arabia, the Syrian army has confiscated two large ammunition depots belonging to Hezbollah in the suburbs of Damascus.

Additionally, the Syrian government is restricting the movement of Hezbollah militants and Iranian proxies to the Golan Heights. These measures are associated with growing concerns about possible attacks by Israel in response to the activities of these groups.

There are also reports that in central Syria, particularly in and around Homs, the movement of Hezbollah supporters is being placed under additional restrictions, reflecting growing fear among Syrian authorities of possible airstrikes.

Previously, Kursor wrote about why Syria does not defend Hezbollah in the conflict with Israel.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad continues to maintain neutrality amid the escalating conflict in Lebanon, avoiding open intervention in the growing confrontation over Hezbollah.

Despite the intensification of hostilities and pressure from Arab countries, Assad limited himself to expressing his condolences following the liquidation of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, which raises questions in international circles.

Amid increased Israeli activity in the Golan Heights, including engineering work and border strengthening, Syrian leaders are refraining from escalation. The Israeli army has moved fences closer to Syrian territory, which analysts say may indicate a willingness to expand operations against Hezbollah. However, the Syrian army, including the 4th Division under the command of the president’s brother Maher al-Assad, has avoided hosting Hezbollah fighters at its bases to avoid being targeted by Israeli attacks.

Experts such as Carolyn Rose of the New Lines Institute emphasize that Assad is trying not to drag Syria into a direct confrontation with Israel, realizing that the Syrian army is not prepared for a protracted war, especially in the context of the internal crisis in the country. . Faced with the threat of terrorism and economic problems, Syria is focused on stabilizing the situation within the country and cannot afford to become involved in a new regional conflict.
