THE 41 National Zarzuela Week of La Solana, Festival of National Tourist Interest, raised the curtain, with an unprecedented opening gala at the Tomás Barrera Municipal Theater. The cultural and musical event will be held until October 27 and will offer fifteen high-level musical and lyrical performances, which attract thousands of fans of the genre each year.
The opening ceremony, during which there will be clear nods to the internationality to which Zarzuela Week aspires, as desired by the honorary president of the Cultural Association “Friends of Zarzuela » (ACAZ), Antonio García Cervigón, began with the proclamation and the presentation of four prizes.
More specifically, the actor and director Juanma Cifuentes will be awarded, with the “Juan Pedro Mayor”; mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera, in the role of “Ama Mayor”; to the Castilian-La Mancha designer Marta VillaRuiz, with the “Golden Saffron Rose” for her creations with saffron roses; and Alfonsa Lara Vinuesa, director of the La Solana Dance Academy, with the “El Sembrador” award. Nancy Fabiola Herrera arrives from Venezuela to collect her “Ama Mayor” award and perform at the following gala.
The evening will close with the premiere of the show “Zarzuela Gala 24”, from the Fundación Zarzuela Colombia, with voices of the highest quality from the international opera circuit who, in addition, are high-level performers in terms of playing and performance. gestural, such as the soprano Ruth Terán, the mezzo-soprano Mónica Redondo, the tenor Pancho Corujo, the tenor and singer Juanma Cifuentes and the singer and actress Solanera Petri Casado. The music will be performed live by the Ensemble of the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Getafe, in collaboration with the ACAZ Choir, directed by Daniel Báñez, as well as by the Ballet of Mary Carmen Sereno.

After the opening gala, nine days begin with performances dedicated to the lyrical genre in which the best-known titles or the classics School Days of the Zarzuela, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, neither does Artescenato which are added this year orchestral music and cinema.

On Saturday October 19 at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., “El Cantar del Arriero” will be staged by the “Materlírica España” company. On Sunday 20, at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. it will be the turn of ‘La Cour du Pharaon’, by the same company, with a new staging. With a libretto by Perrín y Palacios and music by Vicente Lleó, he returns to La Solana in a new production by Materlírica.
Tuesday, October 22, the Zarzuela School Days are scheduled, in which the educational centers will participate, which this year celebrate their 40th anniversary. During the morning of that day, scenes of “The Song of the Arriero”, “The Court of the Pharaoh”, “La Revoltosa” and “The Saffron Rose” in the patios of the Casa de la Encomienda, the Casa de la Iglesia, in the patio of the Don Diego Palace and in the Auditorium of the Music School.
On Wednesday October 23, at 8:30 p.m., as a novelty, the film ‘Tiempo de Zarzuela’, by Cristina Otero Roth, which covers the history, heritage and current panorama of the lyrical genre, will be screened at the Cinema La Solana (Audiovisual Center). Spanish.
Also thinking of schoolchildren, the Zarzuguiñol Company returns on Thursday October 24 with “Once Upon a Time in Peñarroya Castle”, an adaptation of the play “Princesses and Knights”, in two matinee performances at the Tomás Barrera Theater.
In the afternoon of this same Thursday, the day of homage of associations to the lyrical genre, Artescena IX, will arrive at 8:30 p.m. at the Tomás Barrera Theater.
On Friday, October 25 at 9:00 p.m., the CLM Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Francisco José Velasco, will perform a selection of zarzuelas.
The second and final weekend there will be four performances. On Saturday October 26 at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the performance of “La Revoltosa”, by the Clásicos de la Lírica company “Drao Producciones SL”, and finally on Sunday, as tradition dictates, Zarzuela Week with ‘La rosa del azafrán’, performed by the Lyric Company Maestro Andrés Uriel of the ACAZ of La Solana, in collaboration with the company DRAO Producciones SL. It will be Sunday October 29, with performances at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
