To denounce sexual violence, dozens of demonstrations in front of the courts in France

Trial of the Mazan rapes, revelations about Abbé Pierre or rape followed by the murder of the Philippines: dozens of demonstrations took place on Saturday, October 19 in front of the French courts for “Denounce rape culture”at the call of several feminist groups.

One of them, Dare Feminism, calls for a “institutional revolution”in particular so that the “Justice is finally given to the 94,000 victims of rape and sexual assault each year in France”.

In Lyon, more than 300 people gathered in front of the court, some of them dressed as Rosie the Riveter, in a jumpsuit and a red scarf with white polka dots tied on her head, a popular culture character turned symbol of the emancipation of the woman

In Paris, a hundred people gathered in front of the judicial court with signs and slogans demanding “Let shame change sides” EITHER “What does justice do? ». “Stop the denial”was written on another sign, when another message said: “The 0.6% of those convicted of rape can do better. »

“Stop layoffs”

In Marseille, where around thirty people gathered, several protesters carried a sign with the image of Gisèle Pelicot and chanted “stop nowhere” AND “sentence for rapists”. For Valentine Caffè, 50, the Gisèle Pelicot affair is “almost a textbook case”who can “bend the law”hoping that France will take the example of Spain, for example, whose law Only yes is yes (“Only yes means yes”) decides that it is up to the aggressor to prove that there is consent.

In front of the Toulouse court, at the beginning of the afternoon there were a hundred protesters in front of a large banner that said “Rapist outside the university hospital”. The mobilization of Haute-Garonne had, in fact, a particular connotation, while a medical student sentenced to five years in prison for sexual assault must return to the medical internship in Toulouse in November.

In September, 10,000 people marched through the streets of France in support of Gisèle Pelicot, who refused to hold the closed-door trial of her ex-husband, who drugged her to rape her and had dozens of strangers rape her. Fifty other men, aged between 36 and 74, are being tried along with her now ex-husband. “I dedicate myself [ce combat] to all people, women and men, around the world, who are victims of sexual violence”declared to the press.
