The President of Russia congratulated the leader of Serbia on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from Nazi invaders.

“Thousands of Soviet soldiers who gave their lives in the fight against Nazism rest on Serbian soil. “We greatly appreciate the respect and care with which the authorities and people of Serbia preserve his memory.” – says the congratulatory telegram published in the press service of the Serbian leader.

The Russian President also wished Aleksandar Vucic health and success, as well as well-being and prosperity to all the Serbian people.

Recall that Belgrade was liberated from the Nazi occupiers on October 20, 1944. More than 4 thousand soldiers of the Red Army and 3 thousand Yugoslav soldiers died in the battles for Belgrade. Enemy losses amounted to about 45 thousand people.

Numerous events are planned for tomorrow in the Serbian capital with the participation of representatives of the Serbian authorities and high-level guests from Russia. Representatives of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly will also participate in them. In particular, a scientific conference will be held with the participation of Russian and Serbian experts on the liberation of Belgrade and Serbia during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. and the procession of the Immortal Regiment.

As the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly recalls, since 2013 the People’s Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has had observer status in the Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly.
