German law enforcement officers allegedly prevented an attempted terrorist attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin, Bild reports citing a representative of the federal prosecutor’s office.
According to the publication, on October 19, special forces carried out an operation in the city of Bernau (in the state of Brandenburg), where the suspect was detained. Searches were also carried out in an apartment in a multi-storey building in the city of St. Augustine (North Rhine-Westphalia).
“Tonight a police operation took place in Bernau near Berlin and in St. Augustin near Bonn. “The suspect was arrested in Bernau on charges of belonging to a foreign terrorist organization.” — the portal quotes the words of a representative of the federal prosecutor’s office Michael Rameller.
The official noted that in San Agustín “only witnesses were interviewed and possible evidence was collected.”

German security forces found the alleged terrorist thanks to a tip from one of the foreign intelligence services, the portal reports. According to this information, after the attack on the diplomatic mission, the man would take refuge in his uncle’s house in San Agustín, and then flee abroad. The Bild prosecutor’s office clarified that the latter is a witness in the case.
According to Bild, the suspect arrived in Germany in November 2022 and already submitted an asylum application in January. His application was rejected and he was subject to deportation. However, the man remained in Germany and lived in Bernau.
In particular, devices and storage media were confiscated in the places where the searches were carried out, the publication reports. According to him, the court will choose a precautionary measure for the Libyan on October 20.
