Rules for the safe use of “Wi-Fi” have been announced

Saving mobile traffic and the habit of not turning off the “Wi-Fi” when leaving home are two of the reasons why the smartphone has become a target for cybercriminals.

Oku.Az reports about this with reference to iz.ru.

According to Alexander Golubchikov, a Russian expert in this field, one of the most serious cyber threats related to regular Wi-Fi is man-in-the-middle attacks. In these cases, criminals can intercept data between your device and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

“It is possible for cybercriminals to read, change, or even steal sensitive information such as passwords and card numbers. Since anyone can connect to a public Wi-Fi network, it is impossible to determine exactly who can track or capture your information on the Internet.”, Golubchikov said. .

Hackers can also use special software to intercept and monitor user traffic on public Wi-Fi networks. This allows them to collect sensitive data, such as login information.

The third threat mentioned by the expert is fake “Wi-Fi” networks created by cybercriminals. These networks look genuine but are actually designed to steal data. By joining them, you unknowingly reveal your information.

To protect your data on public Wi-Fi networks, one expert recommends avoiding sensitive transactions such as banking or online shopping when connected to public Wi-Fi. If you see several access points with similar names (for example, “guestrestaurant”, “freerestaurant”, etc.), ask the establishment’s staff which network is best to use. Also, it is not recommended to constantly keep the “Wi-Fi” function on your smartphone while on the move, as this can lead to automatic connection to unsafe networks without your knowledge.

In addition, the expert recommends regularly updating devices and software, installing the latest security patches and protecting the device from online threats.
