Presidential elections and referendum held in Moldova

A constitutional referendum on presidential elections and the republic’s integration into Europe will be held on Sunday in Moldova.

Oku.Az “Interfax” reports that, according to the decision of the Central Election Commission, 1,957 polling stations operate on the territory of Moldova. 231 polling stations were opened for Moldovan citizens abroad in 37 countries.

As of September 1, there are 3,300,805 people on the state voter registry.

The election is monitored by the OSCE Mission and several other international organizations. The local CEC has accredited some 1,500 Moldovan and international observers to monitor the elections.

This year, 11 candidates are competing for the position of president. The results of public opinion polls show current President Maya Sandu as the favorite in the electoral race. His main opponent is former prosecutor general Alexander Stoyanoglou.
